This rare antique memento mori skull ring is crafted from solid 15ct gold. The incredible skull features two great sized pinky/red ruby eyes set into a silver face encrusted with rose cut diamonds. These antique diamonds which have been cut by hand sparkle beautifully even in the lowest light.

There are no hallmarks on the ring but i would date the skull to the 1930s, where it probably originally served as a stick pin, before being converted.

Memento Mori jewellery, which translates from Latin as “Remember you must die" has been celebrated since the 17th century, and was worn in the Victorian era as a reminder of the inevitability of death and the need to live life to the fullest.

Currently a UK size O which is a US size 8 1/4, the face of this ring measures 12mm x 7mm, and has great finger coverage. It is in excellent antique condition - the gems are well set and sturdy and the gold band has a lovely patina which only age can produce. It weighs a comfortable 3.7g.
